Cape Coral is preparing to break ground on its largest public project ever — a $225 million full rebuild of the historic Yacht Club. Originally built in 1962, the waterfront facility sustained major damage during Hurricane Ian in 2022, prompting city leaders to replace the planned $12 million renovation with a complete redevelopment. The project will add a modern marina, parking garage, community center, restaurant, resort-style pool and beach, with phased construction expected to finish by 2030. Funding will come primarily from public service taxes on electricity and natural gas, along with redirected funds and an $8 million general fund loan. Residents expressed both excitement and concern about the scale, budget and timeline of the rebuild, WINK News reports.
