Tropicana Field repairs ahead of schedule after Hurricane Milton damage

  • December 5, 2025

ST. PETESBURG, Fla. (WWSB) – Tropicana Field’s new roof has been fully repaired following Hurricane Milton damage, with the structure now stronger than before and capable of withstanding winds exceeding 150 mph.

Tropicana Field roof repairs expected to finish before Rays’ April home opener

The hurricane tore the stadium’s roof into pieces, but repairs are progressing ahead of schedule. Crews are rebuilding catwalk electrical systems and broadcast and sound equipment as part of the restoration project.

The total repair cost reaches almost $60 million, with raised covering costs above standard replacement expenses. Officials said the work is slightly ahead of schedule due to this year’s unusually calm storm season.

Despite the project’s scale, the city remains on track to have the facility ready by April 6 in time for the 2026 season.

The repairs come as Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, originally established as a last resort insurer, continues efforts to reduce its size. Officials with Citizens and state leaders have been working to shrink the company because of significant financial risks the state would face if a major hurricane or multiple hurricanes hit.
