The Jacksonville State Gamecocks (8-4) host the Kennesaw State Owls (9-3) on Friday night, looking for their second consecutive Conference USA championship.

Jacksonville State finished 7-1 in CUSA play in its first season under coach Charles Kelly and clinched its spot in the title game when Garrison Rippa hit a 28-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Gamecocks to a 37-34 win over visiting Western Kentucky on Saturday. Caden Creel accounted for three touchdowns in the victory, throwing for 204 yards and two scores while running for 143 yards and a TD on 20 carries. Cam Cook ground out 137 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries while Deondre Johnson caught five passes for 122 yards and a score. 

Kennesaw State won its way to the CUSA championship, finishing 7-1 with a 48-42 double-overtime victory at Liberty on Saturday. After Amari Odom hit Christian Moss with a 25-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the Owls’ second OT possession, the defense stopped the Flames on downs to end it. Odom was 14-of-23 for 240 yards and four touchdowns while running for 72 yards and a score on 13 carries. Coleman Bennett ran for 92 yards and a touchdown on 14 attempts, and Gabriel Benyard caught a pair of touchdown passes.

The Gamecocks earned the right to host the championship game with their 35-26 win over the Owls at home on November 15th. Jacksonville State has won the last three meetings between the teams to tie the all-time series at 3-3.
