Orlando Commissioner Shan Rose is campaigning on bringing home real results for District 5 as she seeks reelection.
During a time when families are facing higher costs, residential instability, and insecurity at work, Orlando District 5 Commissioner Shaniqua “Shan” Rose says she is delivering tangible, quantifiable results that positively affect the lives of constituents.
Since taking office, Commissioner Rose said she has made the cost of living her top priority – investing over $1.2 million into career training and workforce development programs in District 5. These programs have helped local residents gain certifications, develop new skills, and secure higher-paying jobs. At a time when too many leaders only talk about opportunity, Shan Rose says she is creating it.
Her campaign also said her commitment to economic empowerment goes beyond training. Through multiple community job fairs, Commissioner Rose has helped hundreds of District 5 residents find employment with companies that offer real career paths and benefits. From small businesses to large employers, she said she has worked tirelessly to open doors and remove barriers to economic mobility – and she is seeking the opportunity to continue that work with a full term.
Food insecurity remains a serious issue in the community, and Commissioner Rose stated she responded with action, not words. Her team has distributed over 3,000 pounds of food to families in need, partnering with local organizations to ensure no child or elder goes hungry in District 5. She noted that these food drives have become a lifeline for many and a reminder that local government can – and should – serve with compassion.
“Everything I do is based on service to my community,” Commissioner Rose said. “I’ve been where many of our residents are. That’s why I work so hard to deliver them the resources, training, and support they deserve.”
Within a matter of months, Shan Rose is campaigning on how she has “demonstrated that bold leadership and community-driven policy can bring about real change,” saying that from creating jobs and career development to combating food insecurity, her track record speaks for itself.
Her reelection campaign says District 5 is rising, and it’s because Shan Rose is delivering. Many agree with her, as the Rose reelection campaign has swept up most endorsements in the race, including from CFHLA (Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association), IAFF 1365, SEIU, LiUNA, Greater Orlando Builders Association, Orlando Regional Realtors Association, Apartment Association of Greater Orlando, Ruth’s List, Florida Rising, Democratic State Representative Rita Harris and others.
It is a hotly contested race between suspended former Commissioner Regina Hill, who still faces an upcoming trial on serious felony charges, and community activist Lawanna Gelzer.
Election Day for the upcoming Orlando municipal election for District 5 City Commissioner is November 4, 2025 and polls will be open 7am to 7pm. Early Voting will be October 27th to November 2nd at select times at the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office on Kaley St. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is October 23rd.
