Osceola County Sheriff deputies late Friday shot and killed a 30-year-old man after he fired his weapon during a prolonged standoff, according to a report from WESH 2 News.

The fatal incident began around 10:40 Friday morning when deputies responded to investigate a domestic battery incident at the Jamison Apartments in Kissimmee, the report said. The suspect locked himself inside his apartment when deputies attempted to contact him.

The suspect started streaming live on Facebook, making suicidal remarks and displaying a handgun, the report said. Hostage negotiators and family members attempted to convince him to surrender to authorities.

In the afternoon, deputies sent a chemical agent into the apartment that resulted in the suspect coming out of the building, the report said. The suspected laid face down and was holding a handgun pointing at his head.

Just before 9 p.m., the suspect fired his weapon, prompting deputies to return fire and strike him, the report said.

The suspect was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center and was later pronounced dead, WESH said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting.
