Elevate Florida, a statewide program announced earlier this year, aims to help residents cover the costs of expensive hurricane protection projects, like elevating or reconstructing a home.

The Florida Department of Emergency Management set aside $400 million in federal money for the program and said it would prioritize flood-prone residences.

All property owners should have received an update on their application as of August, according to the state.
