TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – It’s the season of giving all across the nation and in Tallahassee, as community members find ways to help those in need.
Leon County school board member Darryl Jones hosted a toy and coat drive Sunday afternoon in hopes of donations to be distributed amongst Title I schools, Family Promise of the Big Bend and families in public housing.
“Us coming together to make certain that those children and their needs are met during the holidays,” Jones said. “This time of year can often times be a time of lack and a time of need, but our neighbors have been most generous.”

The drive was in partnership with several community organizations, with one goal: to make sure families facing tough times can still put gifts underneath the tree for their kids.
“I just believe that our children and their families, our working class families, need to know that we are indeed a caring community and we see that every year now for the last 15 years,” the school board member said.
Children’s toys and winter coats were collected. Jones said at last check, they had more than 100 bicycles and hundreds of toy donations.
