A Plantation High School student was hospitalized on Monday after he was shot at an apartment complex near the school, Broward School Board officials said.

According to Plantation Police, officers responded to the area of Northwest 70th Avenue and 16th Street after receiving reports of a shooting.

Police said the incident appeared to have started with a fight involving two juveniles that ended with one of them being shot.

The juvenile who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the shooting happened off-campus and after school hours, and that officers were working to identify a suspect.

Nearby Plantation Middle School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdown was lifted.

The incident remains under investigation.
