1. U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security presents bonuses to Tampa TSA workers
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was at Tampa Intentional Airport on Monday, where she gave $10,000 bonus checks to 25 Transportation Security Administration workersÂ
2. South St. Pete redevelopment plans stall for Tangerine Plaza
Residents who have been hoping for a grocery store in south St. Pete will have to wait a bit longer.
3. USF introduces Brian Hartline as new coach: “Time is now for USF football”
Hartline made his way to Tampa this weekend amid Ohio State’s preparation for its College Football Playoff run.Â
4. Voters head to polls Tuesday in State Senate District 11 Special Election
Voting is open to residents in the district, which covers Hernando, Sumter, Citrus and a small section of northwest Pasco County.
5. SpaceX to launch another batch of Starlink satellites
The company is targeting 5:26 p.m. EST tonight for the launch. However, the launch window runs until 8:14 p.m. EST.
6. Supreme Court seems likely to back Trump’s power to fire independent agency board members
The court’s conservative majority suggested it would overturn a 90-year-old decision that has limited when presidents can fire agencies’ board members, or leave it with only its shell intact.

TAMPA TRAFFIC ALERT | The intersection of South Himes Avenue and West Mullen Avenue is now closed while the Tampa Water Department repairs a water main break. Barricades and signs are located in the area to assist with traffic flow. The completion of the work with a return to normal traffic patterns is expected by Friday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. The Tampa Water Department may need to return at a later date to complete additional work. An update will be provided at that time.
WATER LAB RIBBON-CUTTING | The city of St. Petersburg is hosting a ribbon cutting event to celebrate the opening of the new Water Resources Department Water Lab at 1650 3rd Ave. N. on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m. The new building will ensure a continuation of city services during natural disasters, including hurricanes and flooding, as well as conducting relevant water testing. A tours of the building will be offered after the ceremony.
PINELLAS PLANNING FOR PROGRESS | Pinellas County Schools will be hosting a Planning for Progress community meeting to discuss the future of its schools. Families, staff, and community members will have the opportunity to share ideas and feedback on how the district can best serve students in the years ahead. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Lakewood High School from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.
FOOLISHLY FESTIVE CHRISTMAS PARADE | Resident-created floats, festive costumes, and plenty of holiday cheer will be featured at the Foolishly Festive Christmas Parade at Esplanade Lakewood Ranch on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. Guests can also enjoy food trucks and a live band performance.
