St. Pete has a bold new destination for contemporary art and collectibles: Ultra Mundane Gallery (1750 Central Ave). Clean and polished, the space feels like stepping into a Y2K time capsule, complete with neon signage, a vintage TV display, and a gift shop stocked with rare designer toys and limited-edition zines.

Despite its name, Ultra Mundane offers an experience that’s far from ordinary. Its opening exhibit and thoughtfully curated displays challenge tradition, blending fine art with retro treasures for a gallery experience that feels fresh and disruptive.

Current exhibit: Continuum

The gallery’s debut exhibit, Continuum, runs through December 31 and features Swiss-born artist Marius Wiget, whose mixed-media work blurs the line between realism and abstraction. Drawing on his background in street art and graphic design, Wiget creates bold, imaginative pieces that explore perception and memory through layered color, form, and collage. Familiar objects serve as entry points into his paintings, providing viewers with an easy gateway into abstraction and offering new perspectives that are accessible to anyone.

More than a gallery

Ultra Mundane also showcases multimedia works from local artists, including founder Ora Fraze and co-curator Stephanie Agudelo. Their shared vision is to highlight emerging artists and host immersive events that break away from the traditional white-cube gallery model. “It’s more than just a gallery,” says Agudelo, “it’s an inclusive space for opportunities, community, and connection.”

Visitors can view photography by Agudelo and paintings and digital art by Fraze, who often incorporates an animated character called Duug (now the gallery’s mascot) into his work. Duug will appear in future exhibits and promotional materials, adding a playful signature to the gallery’s identity. Pop culture enthusiasts will also appreciate Fraze’s personal collection of rare collectibles, from MAD Magazine editions to Magic: The Gathering cards and even McDonald’s Adult Happy Meal toys, connecting fine art with nostalgia.

What’s next for Ultra Mundane

Fraze and Agudelo spent nine months preparing Ultra Mundane for its opening, and they’re just getting started. Upcoming plans include fashion shows, photography sessions, and live textile art in the gallery window, alongside rotating exhibits and high-energy opening nights.

The gallery’s next event, Christmas Extravaganza at Ultra Mundane, will take place on December 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Guests can enjoy live painting, a fire performance, handmade ornaments, and complimentary wine. The evening is free to attend, and visitors can RSVP and find more details on Eventbrite.
