ORLANDO, Fla. — On Tuesday, voters in Orlando’s District 3 are heading to the polls to pick who will serve as the new commissioner in this special election.

Just more than a dozen votes separated Democrats Roger Chapin and Mira Tanna in the November election, which resulted in this runoff.

Chapin held a narrow lead, earning 34% of the vote, compared to Tanna, who earned 33.8%.

Chambers is currently a professor at Valencia College and the elected Orange Conservation Supervisor, according to his campaign website. He said he was running to show up for the people of his district.

Chapin describes himself as a lifelong Orlando resident, local businessman and proven civic leader on his campaign website.

He said he joined the race to make sure District 3 has a strong and experienced voice in City Hall and is striving to get resources such as safer streets, reliable city services, and smart economic development for the district.

Tanna has served as the City of Orlando’s Grants Manager since 2018, coordinating $275M in grants activity, according to her campaign website. She describes herself as being committed to building trust within local government and making sure City Hall works for everyone that is currently residing in District 3.

Both candidates are seeking to replace Robert Stuart, who retired after 20 years in office.

The polls will close at 7 p.m.
