Florida House committee discusses congressional redistricting laws

  • December 10, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – State lawmakers learned more about laws around redrawing congressional boundaries during a committee meeting Wednesday.

The House Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting met for the second time on Wednesday morning to discuss how it will draw new political boundaries. The meeting was held to provide lawmakers with information, primarily when different conflicting requirements apply.

No new map has been proposed. Lawmakers were reminded they would be using the same data they used in 2022 to draw the current maps.

Rep. Fentrice Driskell, the Democratic minority leader, questioned the need for redistricting.

“It makes sense not to do this at all. The rationale I’ve heard is for why we should do this is that Florida’s had this population growth. We’ve had population growth every decade for a century,” Driskell said.

The committee chair refused to answer reporter questions and got on the elevator right after Wednesday’s meeting. The Senate is waiting until after the regular session to address redistricting.
