Waters, Shields to ring the bell for Salvation Army

SEMINOLE — On Thursday, Dec. 18, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Mayor Leslie Waters and City Council member Al Shields will be staffing the Salvation Army Red Kettle at Seminole Publix, 7880 113th St., across from Seminole City Center.

“I have been a big supporter of the Salvation Army for decades. This will be my 18th year ringing to fill the Kettle,” Waters said. “The Salvation Army are community leaders, with a focus on the Sallie House; adult rehabilitation centers, post-storm assistance; food pantries; and helping members of the military assimilate back home.”

Added Shields, “The Sallie House manages an important emergency shelter in Pinellas County providing a safe haven for neglected and/or abused children.”

Junior Woman’s Club seeks new members

SEMINOLE — The Seminole Junior Woman’s Club is seeking new club members, women 18 or older from Seminole and surrounding areas. The club meets at 6:30 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month at Lake Seminole Square, 8333 Seminole Blvd.

The group is dedicated to serving the community, particularly through programs helping children and Veterans. Club activities include providing a meal at the Ronald McDonald House in St. Petersburg, the SJWC “Share our Spirit” food drive, which helps feed Seminole children during Christmas break, and its annual purse auction in April to raise funds for programs in our community.

Seminole to celebrate 25th Annual Winterfest

The Seminole Recreation Department will host its 25th Annual “Winterfest” on Friday, Dec. 12, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th St. N. Participants are encouraged to wear ugly Christmas sweaters. It is free to attend and available to all ages.

This event will feature a three-lane 75-foot Snow Hill, free pictures with Santa, make-and-take crafts, tree lighting, holiday gift market, entertainment, food vendors and more. New this year will be a Grinch Dunk Tank, Florida Snowball Fight inside an inflatable igloo, stage contests and attendees can write letters to soldiers. The stage contests include Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, Cookie Eating, Santa Sound-A-Like, and Gift Wrapping.

A $7 wristband is required for Snow Hill, bounce houses, Grinch Dunk Tank and Florida Snowball Fight. This includes parents and teens utilizing these event elements. Children must be present when the wristband is purchased.
