Cape Coral City Council on Dec. 10 approved a $1.125 million contract with Aquatic Control Group Inc. for mechanical aquatic vegetation harvesting services.

Cape Coral is required to implement a vegetation harvesting and removal program to improve water quality in canals due to permits for the Chiquita Lock removal. City staff issued a request for proposals for the work, considering responses from Aquatic and two other firms, FloridAquatic Lake Management and Solitude Lake Management LLC.

They analyzed the firms based on experience and qualifications, licenses and certifications, equipment, team management ability, references and fees. The contract with Aquatic is set for a term of up to three years including the first year and two one-year renewals.  Â
