A bicyclist has died after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of West Tharpe Street and Gibbs Drive, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

The collision occurred at about 2 a.m. Dec. 14.

In an incident alert posted to Facebook, authorities confirmed the individual succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

As investigators worked the scene, westbound lanes of Tharpe Street were closed from Gibbs Drive to Monticello Street. The roads have since been reopened.

Police have not released the identity of the bicyclist or details about the circumstances of the accident. A TPD watch commander said the accident was not a hit-and-run, and there were no immediate charges as the crash is investigated.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Crash Dashboard, this is the second bicyclist fatality this year in Leon County, out of 87 crashes involving bicycles. There have also been 202 crashes involving pedestrians, with five of those listed as fatal.
