Former students and teachers from Madeira Beach Elementary (now Madeira Beach Fundamental) gathered Dec. 6 to crack open a 25-year-old time capsule buried by the fifth-grade class of 2000.
Armed with a buzzsaw and hammers, the group worked through sealed containers to reveal what survived. Pokémon cards, photographs, toy cars and handwritten notes emerged from the capsule. Items sealed in plastic bags fared best.
The ceremony ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school, followed by a reunion at Eddie’s Bar and Grill on Bay Pines Boulevard.
