A South Florida woman was getting ready to host a toy drive for children over the weekend when someone broke into one of her trucks and stole some of the gifts.

Mary Faison held her toy drive at Bell Park in West Perrine on Sunday, but the day before, she got the news that someone had stolen from her foundation.

“When you go into any truck that belongs to anyone, when you steal and take from these kids or take from me, you’re taking from the kids of West Perrine, Goulds, Homestead,” she said.

Faison is one of the founders of the Sugar 4 Kids Foundation, a nonprofit that has given back to the South Florida community for the last 10 years.

They noticed on Saturday that someone had cut the lock to one of the trucks and stolen hoverboards and scooters, Faison said.

“We were short of hoverboards, scooters tremendously, but the toy drive continued,” she said. “Of course I want them caught, and they will be caught, justice will be served, but for right now I want the enemy to know you didn’t stop anything.”

Faison was notified that someone saw someone selling hoverboards and scooters nearby, so she has reached out to the sheriff’s office with that information.
