Central Florida officers accused a Cocoa Beach man of cashing thousands of dollars in stolen checks.

Elias Staker, of Cape Canaveral, faces 38 counts of uttering forged checks and one count of scheme to defraud, according to a press release from the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

The former is a third-degree felony, and the latter is a second-degree felony.

Officials said they investigated Staker’s activities against an elderly victim for months.

They believe he wrote and cashed numerous stolen checks, resulting in losses of more than $33,000, according to the release.

On Wednesday, officials arrested and transported him to Brevard County Jail.

He’s being held with no bond.
