ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A 46-year-old man from Sugarland, Texas died in a crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Port St. Lucie early Dec. 19.

Just before 7 a.m. a 2015 Freightliner truck was driving south on Florida’s Turnpike when for an unknown reason, it swerved into the outside shoulder, according to Lt. Indiana Miranda, Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson.

The front of the box truck collided with the back of a 2022 Dodge Ram pulling a flatbed trailer, which was parked on the shoulder.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, the man from Texas, was outside the truck at the time of the crash. The man was hit by the Dodge Ram before being run over by the box truck and then pinned down, according to Miranda.

The man was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the box truck, a 63-year-old man from Morehead, Kentucky, and a passenger, a 39-year-old woman from Hillsboro, Kentucky, were transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce with non-incapacitating injuries, Miranda said.
