So long ‘baby fall’. Humidity’s plotting a comeback

  • October 17, 2025

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Florida’s ‘baby fall’ is still winning…but it’s about to get a little clingy.

A perfect October stretch

Let’s be honest, Florida’s “baby fall” has been putting on a show. Warm afternoons, crisp(ish) mornings, blue skies, and just enough of a breeze to make us feel like we live somewhere with actual seasons.

High pressure is holding steady over the Southeast, keeping skies mostly clear and humidity manageable through the weekend. The strongest breezes will be overnight into early morning, with calmer afternoons that make this weekend feel made for the beach, the pumpkin patch, or just sitting outside pretending it’s not still 86 degrees.

A weak front slides in late Sunday

The weekend finishes warm and sunny, but a weak front moves through late Sunday into Monday. It’s not the kind of front that brings sweaters out of the closet, but it might deliver a quick shower or two.

The real change will be the humidity. Dew points climb back into the upper 60s and low 70s next week, which means Florida’s “baby fall” is about to get clingy. It’s still warm and beautiful, but that crisp edge fades fast.

There’s one tropical wave on the board, Disturbance 1, sitting more than 1,000 miles east of the Windward Islands. The National Hurricane Center gives it a 30% chance of development over the next 7 days.

Even if it doesn’t strengthen, it will likely bring gusty winds and heavy rain to parts of the Windward Islands later this weekend before moving into the Caribbean next week. There’s no immediate threat to Florida, but we’ll keep an eye on it.

Boating & marine outlook

Gusty northeast to east winds continue at night through Saturday, then shift southeast Sunday ahead of the weak front. Winds return to a northerly flow early next week. Conditions are good overall, but small craft should use caution at night when winds peak.

Look up tonight

Another crystal-clear evening is on tap. The crescent moon will shine beside bright Jupiter, stealing the show in the eastern sky. And if you stick around long enough, the Orionid meteor shower continues. It’s not peak night yet, but you might just catch a meteor streak across the sky.
