TAMPA — A 19-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after departing an Interstate 275 exit ramp at high speed and colliding with a pickup truck, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. Oct. 14 on the exit ramp from I-275 to Bearss Avenue, troopers said.
A Yamaha R6 motorcycle driven by an Inverness man was traveling south on the exit ramp, according to the Highway Patrol. A Chevrolet Silverado towing a trailer and driven by a 41-year-old Tampa man was traveling west on Bearss Avenue, troopers said.
Traveling at high speed, the motorcyclist departed the ramp, struck a concrete traffic island, entered Bearss Avenue and collided with the Silverado, according to the Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and suffered serious injuries, troopers said. The truck driver was not injured.
