Light layers recommended as December mornings stay cool

  • December 22, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Good morning! If you’re wondering about what to wear before heading out the door, let me be your guide.

I went with my puff coat today, and I’m glad I did. Temperatures early this morning dropped to 49 degrees at the airport.

Inland areas like Green Cove Springs cooled all the way to 46.

If you’re closer to the coast—think St. Augustine or Mayport—you woke up to temps in the low 60s, a little milder, but noticeably gusty.

My advice? Go for a light layer or jacket this morning. You’ll likely be able to peel it off by the afternoon, especially the closer you are to the water.

It’s breezy, too, with wind gusts in the teens and 20s, so if you’re sensitive to wind chill, definitely bundle up a bit.

Afternoon showers possible, but brief

Let’s talk rain—because our lawns could sure use it! Exact Track 4D radar is clear right now.

A couple of light showers are expected to move in from the Atlantic after lunchtime, but it won’t be anything heavy.

Most of us won’t see any rain at all, and if you do, expect it to be short-lived.

We’re about 10 inches shy of where we should be with rainfall this time of year, so even a bit helps, but don’t count on your plans being washed out.

Looking ahead to Christmas week

Here’s some good news for your holidays: it’s looking like a dry Christmas for Jacksonville!

Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the 60s under mostly sunny skies.

If you’re tackling any last-minute shopping, expect to start with some cloud cover in the morning, but you’ll be greeted by sunshine as the day goes on.
