A judge won’t yet block a new Florida law stopping changes to growth plans

But on Friday the judge allowed a legal challenge to the wide-ranging measure to proceed. The prohibition on growth-plan changes was included this spring in a bill called SB 180. Lawmakers said it would help the state recover from the 2024 hurricanes. The law, signed in June by Gov. Ron DeSantis, effectively freezes local land-development regulations and comprehensive plans through October 1, 2027.

St. Petersburg installs multicolored bike racks where an LGBTQ pride mural used to be

This year, Governor Ron DeSantis ordered that street art be banned in Florida. That led to the removal of inclusive murals across the state. WMNF’s Chris Young reports the city’s LGBTQ+ liaison calls the new bike racks a sign of support for the city’s gay residents.

Anti-ICE demonstrators protest in Largo

On Saturday, demonstrators protested on the sidewalk near the entrance to a Home Depot. WMNF’s Leah Burdick reports, they have protested against federal immigration enforcement every Saturday during December.

A bill would eliminate yellow vehicle registration stickers in Florida

The proposal (HB 841 and SB 982) would still require individuals to follow registration and renewal rules.
