TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – With Christmas just days away, Santa and his elves spread holiday cheer at Dorothy B. Oven Park Monday evening.
Elf Night, initially scheduled for last Thursday, is an annual, highly anticipated event that draws large crowds.
Due to the popularity of the event, law enforcement officials like Tallahassee Police Department Detective Michael Carter emphasized traffic safety and said traffic delays are expected.
“I know when we’re sitting in traffic waiting for traffic, we’re more inclined to pick up our phones, text, check emails, check social media, but I would encourage you not to do so because there are a lot of people in the area. We want everyone to get home safely,” Carter said.

Last year, an off-duty officer who was working a traffic detail on Elf Night was struck by a man driving under the influence.
The incident unfolded after Patel “clipped” the officer and kept driving, according to police. As a result, the off-duty officer suffered a fractured leg.
