FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A boat caught fire late Thursday night at a waterfront property in Fort Lauderdale, sending thick smoke and flames into the air and prompting a response from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

The fire broke out just before midnight at 1000 River Reach Drive.

Videos show bright orange flames and heavy black smoke rising above trees, partially obscuring the boat. Witnesses at the scene said the boat was a total loss.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews arrived and extinguished the fire.

Video from the scene shows a stretcher being brought to the dock area, and the person who recorded the video said someone was taken away on the stretcher. Officials have not yet confirmed whether there were injuries.

Witnesses described the incident as a large boat with a cabin — possibly a yacht — suddenly erupting into flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.FLFR has not yet released additional details.
