A man was hit and killed by an SUV while attempting to cross New Kings Road Friday evening, according to Jacksonville police.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after being hit by an SUV on New Kings Road Friday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The man, described as being in his mid-60s, was walking across the road near the intersection with Gilchrist Road around 6:40 p.m. when he was hit by a northbound Ford Flex, JSO said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene, and the driver, a man in his mid-30s, was uninjured.
There were reportedly no marked crosswalks in the area, and investigators are working to determine if speed was a factor in the crash.
This is the 36th Duval County traffic death involving a pedestrian this year, JSO said, and the 163rd traffic death altogether.
