The Miami Hurricanes have become the gold standard for plucking quarterbacks from the transfer portal over the last two years.

In 2024, they landed Cam Ward from Washington State and rode him to a 4,313-yard, 39-touchdown, 10-win season, which he parlayed into being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

This year, they grabbed Georgia castoff Carson Beck and rode him to an 11-win season and appearance in the quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff.

With Beck graduating (and possibly heading to the NFL), the Hurricanes are poised to go hit the portal once more — and this year’s crop of available passers may be the best of any group in the NIL era.

Manny Navarro of The Athletic recently predicted every Power 4 starting quarterback in 2026, and he believes Miami will leave the transfer portal period with one of the top signal-callers in the country.

“Miami spends big money on transfer QBs, and that will continue in 2026,” Navarro wrote. “Cam Ward and Carson Beck enjoyed success in Shannon Dawson’s offense, and Leavitt, a 20-game starter at Arizona State, makes sense as the Hurricanes look for someone a little more mobile than Beck.”

A four-star recruit and the No. 18-ranked QB in the class of 2024, Sam Leavitt originally committed to Michigan State but transferred to Arizona State after just one season.

He thrived playing under head coach Kenny Dillingham, establishing himself as one of the top passers in the country following his 2,885-yard, 24-touchdown season in 2024, which had many scouts projecting him to be a first-round pick in the 2026 draft.

Injuries derailed Leavitt’s 2025 season, but he still put up impressive numbers (1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns, three interceptions in seven games) and ended up as the No. 1-ranked quarterback in the portal according to On3’s transfer portal rankings.

Below is where Navarro predicted the other top transfer QBs to land.
• Florida’s DJ Lagway to Baylor
• Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola to Louisville
• North Texas’ Drew Mestemaker to Oregon
• Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby to Texas Tech
• Notre Dame’s Kenny Minchey to Virginia
• Michigan State’s Aidan Chiles to Oklahoma State
• USF’s Byrum Brown to Auburn
• TCU’s Josh Hoover to Indiana
• Iowa State’s Rocco Becht to Penn State
