A Canadian man died after rescuers found him floating face down Friday amid a rip current in Volusia County.
The 44-year-old man from Quebec was located about 150-200 yards from shore at 12:19 p.m., according to a statement from Volusia County Beach Safety.
Lifeguards brought him to shore breathless and without a pulse. They immediately initiated lifesaving efforts, the statement said.
The man was transferred to Ormond Beach Fire, then Volusia County EMS for emergency transport, but he was pronounced dead after arriving to an area hospital.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne has warned of a high risk of dangerous rip currents at all Central Florida beaches since earlier this week.
That danger remains likely through Monday and the NWS advises beachgoers to not enter the surf.
