Palm Beach Boulevard is notorious for being a busy road with heavy daily traffic; however, the intersection with Old Olga Road has become a point of frustration for many motorists.

This intersection has caused headaches for many, including Lee County resident Maggie Harrison.

“I drive it every day; I just live down the road,” said Harrison. “It was before Christmas, and I was going to get gas at the gas station, and I just turned the corner, and I heard a loud bang, and then my tires started flapping.”

Harrison added, “So, I knew that my tire had blown out. That’s what I thought had happened.”

The culprit? A small but deep pothole caused her back right tire to blow out, and significant damage to her car that still needs fixing.

“If you turn it into your insurance, your insurance goes up,” Harrison said. “If you pay it out of pocket, then you lose. So, yeah, it’s going to be a substantial amount.”

Harrison and WINK News reached out to Lee County, which stated this is an issue for the Florida Department of Transportation to address.

FDOT has acknowledged WINK News’ request and is currently investigating the issue.

WINK News reported that crews were seen working along Palm Beach Boulevard near the intersection on Monday afternoon, and they appeared to be filling in other damaged areas of the road. Crews wrapped up within minutes but left without filling in that pothole.

“It is part of the road,” said Harrison. “It’s not the side of the road. So, somebody needs to fix it.”
