NYE security to increase after 5 shot in Fort Lauderdale <\/p>\n
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 The Fort Lauderdale Police Department tightened the security plan for the New Year\u2019s Eve celebration on Wednesday night. <\/p>\n
The attention to detail increased after five people were injured outside Dicey Riley\u2019s Irish Pub on Sunday in the Himmarshee Village area.<\/p>\n
A gunman opened fire at about 2 a.m. on Sunday near the corner of Southwest Second Street and Nugent Avenue. <\/p>\n
The shooting was in the same area where two were shot in May 2022, and a man was injured during another shooting in 2021. <\/p>\n
Christian Ojeda, who was out with friends, and DJ Jordan \u201cLyrikill\u201d Seitz, who was working, both said they heard the rapid gunfire. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s sad because you go with your friends to have a good time. To celebrate life, maybe, and then you didn\u2019t expect that thing to happen,\u201d Ojeda said. \u201cI was so worried. I was running. I was shaking. I didn\u2019t know what to do at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saitz said hearing the gunfire was a reminder of the importance of remaining alert and aware of his surroundings. <\/p>\n
