They shared ring camera video showing the people they say are taking packages left in a hallway by mailboxes but there’s no camera pointed in that direction.

Now they’re calling on property management to step in, saying they aren’t doing enough to stop the theft.

Tenants tell us more than 50 packages have been taken since the start of the holiday season but they’re worried thieves think they’re an easy target and won’t stop in the new year.

Anthony Cobb says the holiday season wasn’t very merry at Hyde Park Place on Horatio Street.

“It became an avalanche,” he says, noting that theft was rare before Thanksgiving. “With that Christmas rush of like everyone getting packages and more and more packages.

He says he became a victim a couple of weeks ago.

“I had two Lululemon pants, they were worth 300 bucks,” he adds. “But one person has had like $900 stolen, another $3000.”

He says the hallway next to the mailboxes is the scene of the crime, with packages left every day by delivery drivers on an old bookcase tossed by a resident. It’s just out of view of the closest camera that shows multiple people, he says, are putting boxes into trash bags and walking off.

“There’s a lot of Amazon drivers who deliver here at 4 a.m. in the morning,” Cobb says. “We can be vigilant as residents and still not be awake at 4 a.m. in the morning when a package comes.”

The complex is mostly owned by landlords who rent out the condos to tenants, he and other renters say. Others were hesitant to go on camera but say the COA and property manager are slow to appreciate their frustration. Yesterday one tenant filed a police report.

“The tenant goes to the property management representative, who is here sometimes during the week and complains to him and then he sends out a general email that says, ‘Hey, you should be more careful,’” he adds.

That email sent on December 30 says the COA has no responsibility for theft and that residents should schedule deliveries for when they’ll be home or consider using an off-site locker.

Tenants here think someone has the gate codes to get in because they are widely shared by food and other delivery drivers, which is why they’ve suggested that things should be delivered to the office instead, but management hasn’t taken them up on the idea.

There are plenty of cameras inside the complex, but that footage hasn’t been shared with tenants in the hopes that suspects could be identified and investigated by police.

“If you’re managing the property, monitor the property maybe,” Cobb adds.

Despite precautions, they tell 10 Tampa Bay News that the property manager should install a camera where the…

[13
202,204,203,199,201,200
0":"post-102889","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-st-petersburg","8":"tag-st-pete","9":"tag-st-pete-headlines","10":"tag-st-pete-news","11":"tag-st-petersburg","12":"tag-st-petersburg-headlines","13":"tag-st-petersburg-news
["GET
