HOLLYWOOD, Fla. \u2014 The Stay Strong Jamaica benefit<\/a> is happening Friday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, bringing together reggae royalty to help rebuild the island after Hurricane Melissa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hoping that many Jamaicans come out, West Indians, and friends of Jamaica will come out. It\u2019s not only the music. It\u2019s a benefit — relief benefit,\u201d Inner Circle\u2019s Roger Lewis said. \u201cNo homes, electricity, basic things we take for granted is gone.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was Shaggy\u2019s idea. It\u2019s a continuation from New York,\u201d Inner Circle\u2019s Ian Lewis added. <\/p>\n

Now the concert series is making its stop in South Florida, collaborating with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. <\/p>\n

\u201cHard Rock, they have I believe 5,000 employees, but 300 of them are Jamaican,\u201d Oliver Mair, the Consul General of Jamaica, said. \u201cThey actively asked management, \u2018Hey, we have to support our homeland.\u2019 Hard Rock has been very supportive and gone beyond the call of duty to help us in the relief efforts, so I want to thank them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The official theme song on the Spotify playlist for the concert is performed by the bad boys of reggae, Inner Circle, and it was written by member Ian Lewis.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Bob Marley says, \u2018Everything is going to be alright. Don\u2019t worry.\u2019 It\u2019s a spirit. This is a concert with a purpose,\u201d Ian Lewis said. <\/p>\n

Entire communities are now facing years of recovery, but that spirit and resilience of Jamaica is driving this movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have just had over $10 billion U.S. dollars\u2019 worth of damage after Hurricane Melissa — arguably the most powerful system of all time to hit Jamaica,\u201d Mair said. \u201cThis is our way to ask the community to come together and support us in this relief concert on January 2nd at Hard Rock, which features over 20 excellent reggae artists coming to support our relief efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n

The one-night concert will feature performances by Julian Marley, Shaggy, Wailers, Wayne Wonder and some special surprise guests!<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still need a lot of support. It\u2019s going to take us years to rebuild those sections. This is not a sprint,\u201d Mair said. \u201cYour ticket for this concert is your donation, so we\u2019re asking everyone to come out.\u201d<\/p>\n
