Pirates bolster squad with big acquisition<\/p>\n

Orlando Pirates have announced the permanent signing of Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC for an undisclosed fee.<\/p>\n

The New Zealand forward becomes the first acquisition for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side in the ongoing January transfer window, with more new faces expected to arrive.<\/p>\n

Since joining the Cape Winelands outfit in January 2023, De Jong scored 19 goals and laid 11 assists in 114 matches across all competitions.<\/p>\n

Now, with three goals and a solitary assist in 22 matches this season, the 29-year-old utility player adds more firepower in the Bucs’ arsenal.<\/p>\n

Notably, De Jong can operate as a center-forward and is comfortable playing in between the lines as a no.10, which provides Ouaddou with the opportunity to use different combinations.<\/p>\n

The former Stellies talisman is expected to help the Buccaneers to their first championship since the 2011\/12 campaign as they currently top the Betway Premiership table.<\/p>\n

Pirates are two points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played one game more in the thrilling title race.<\/p>\n
