{"id":106324,"date":"2026-01-05T15:42:24","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T15:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/106324\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T15:42:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T15:42:24","slug":"derek-rosa-in-court-for-hearing-ahead-of-trial-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/106324\/","title":{"rendered":"Derek Rosa in court for hearing ahead of trial \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Hialeah teen accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/boy-13-murdered-mother-in-hialeah-apartment-in-front-of-newborn-police\/3132609\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/boy-13-murdered-mother-in-hialeah-apartment-in-front-of-newborn-police\/3132609\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">brutally stabbing his mother to death<\/a> more than two years ago was back in court for a hearing Monday as his trial is expected to start later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Derek Rosa faces a first-degree murder charge in the killing of his mother, Irina Garcia, who was found slain at the family&#8217;s apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Rosa, now 15, was just 13 when he was arrested in the murder of his mother, who police said was stabbed over 40 times on Oct. 12, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/041525-Derek-Rosa.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\"Derek Rosa\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tMiami-Dade Corrections<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tMiami-Dade Corrections<\/p>\n<p>Derek Rosa<\/p>\n<p>Police said officers responded to the apartment after the teen called 911 to confess he&#8217;d stabbed his 39-year-old mother to death with a kitchen knife.<\/p>\n<p>After taking Rosa into custody, officers found Garcia dead in her bedroom next to a crib with her newborn, who was unharmed.<\/p>\n<p>Rosa later told detectives he stabbed his mother while she slept, according to an arrest report. He took photos of his mother&#8217;s body and sent them to a friend on social media, and told the same friend over the phone that he killed her, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Rosa, who at the time was an 8th grader at iMater Academy in Hialeah, is being charged as an adult and is being held without bond while he awaits trial.
