The City of St. Petersburg will receive $159.8 million in CDBG-DR to support long-term recovery efforts from the 2023\/2024 storms Idalia and Helene.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"recoveryprogram\"\/>Disaster Recovery Program for St. Pete Residents<\/p>\n<p>The Sunrise St. Pete program offers financial assistance to help with home repair, rebuilding, elevation, and reimbursement for expenses related to the storms \u2013 helping residents restore their homes, prevent long-term displacement, and maintain safe, resilient housing.<\/p>\n<p>These federal funds were awarded to the City directly by HUD. HUD determines the total award amount the City receives, the qualifying disasters the City receives funding for, and the household income levels eligible for support. In accordance with HUD guidelines, prioritization is given to low-to-moderate income families earning up to 80% of the area\u2019s median income, with some help for those earning up to 120%.<\/p>\n<p>Grant Applications Now Open!<\/p>\n<p>In anticipation of receiving grant funding from HUD, residents can apply online or in person. You can also book a time to drop off your documents or meet with a Case Manager in person, or on the phone.<\/p>\n<p>While applications can be submitted and processed,\u202f grant awards cannot be made until HUD provides final approval through a signed grant agreement. Davis Center<br \/>1111 18th Ave S \u2028St. Petersburg, FL 33705<\/p>\n<p>Hours of Operation<\/p>\n<p>Monday &#8211; Friday: 8 a.m. &#8211; 6 p.m.<br \/>\nSaturday: 9 a.m. &#8211; Noon<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Please note that assistance is not first-come, first-served \u2013 applications are processed based on program priorities and completeness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Types of Assistance<\/p>\n<p>Through the City\u2019s No Wrong Door approach, applicants will apply through a single application portal, and based on each household\u2019s unique circumstances, are matched with the assistance that best meets their needs.<\/p>\n<p>Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Elevation Assistance: Help for homeowners and small landlords (up to 4 units)\u00a0 to repair, rebuild, or elevate eligible storm-damaged homes, with a priority placed on low- and moderate-income owner-occupied homes.<br \/>\nReimbursement for Repair: Reimbursement for verifiable eligible expenses already incurred to repair, demolish, or reconstruct homes damaged by a qualifying hurricane. Only fully-permitted, code-compliant repairs completed before applying to the program are eligible for reimbursement. This means that residents who have not already sought a permit for completed repairs need to start that process now in order to qualify for reimbursement assistance.<br \/>\nDisaster Relief Payments: Reimbursement for rent, mortgage, and utility payments for up to six consecutive months for eligible low-to-moderate income tenants and homeowners with demonstrated hardship caused by a qualifying storm.<\/p>\n<p>Applications Status by Program<\/p>\n<p>Since opening on December 15, Sunrise St. Pete has seen significant interest across various assistance programs. Here\u2019s a breakdown of the applications received as of December 30, 2025:<\/p>\n<p>Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, &amp; Elevation Assistance: 362 applications<br \/>\nReimbursement for Repair: 144 applications<br \/>\nDisaster Relief Payments: 735 applications<\/p>\n<p>Who Is Eligible?<\/p>\n<p>You lived in St. Petersburg and had damage or financial hardship because of Hurricanes Idalia and\/or Helene.<br \/>\nYou own or rent your home.\u00a0<br \/>\nYou meet program income requirements. Per HUD, most help is for low-to-moderate income families (those earning up to 80% of the area\u2019s median income). <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stpete.org\/residents\/housing\/income_limits.php\" target=\"_blank\">View the current income limits here<\/a>. Find the number of people in your household, then compare your gross (before-tax) income to the chart.<br \/>\nOther eligibility requirements depend on the type of assistance available. All eligibility requirements will be detailed in the program guidelines, available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stpete.org\/residents\/grants___loans\/sunrise_st._pete\/document_library.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Document Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Address to See Which Program Will Serve You<\/p>\n<p>The City of St. Petersburg is now accepting applications for disaster recovery assistance from residents impacted by Hurricanes Idalia and Helene. All feedback received during the comment period was reviewed and addressed in the Final Action Plan submitted to HUD for approval.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"actionplan\"\/>Action Plan<\/p>\n<p>In August 2025, the City of St. Petersburg&#8217;s Action Plan was approved by HUD.
