The River District Farmers Market is making a grand return to downtown Fort Myers, promising to be bigger and better than ever before. After a hiatus since Hurricane Ian, the community is eagerly anticipating its comeback, set for Saturday, January 17.<\/p>\n
Jean Baer, owner of Local Roots, expressed her excitement about the market’s new location.<\/p>\n
“We’re super excited because we’ve really wanted to be in the heart of downtown,” said Baer.<\/p>\n
Local business owners are also thrilled about the market’s return.<\/p>\n
“Anytime you close the streets off and you bring in, you know, people from all over, it’s a good thing to have,” said Tricia Davis, owner of Scoops on First. “I think it’s a great idea.”<\/p>\n
The market will host close to 50 vendors and offers more than just shopping opportunities.<\/p>\n
“From a community standpoint, a diversity in your food and just coming up with relationships are good reasons to come to a farmer’s market, plus the money stays local,” said Baer.<\/p>\n
The market will operate every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April, stretching along First, Broadway, and Main Streets.<\/p>\n

“History shows us that more people shop, they say as high as 30% will then shop someplace else once they’re at a farmers market,” said Baer.<\/p>\n
Amy Bennett, manager at Enjewel, is optimistic about the influx of visitors.<\/p>\n
“That’s amazing bringing people down here, and people love farmers markets and the snowbirds that are coming, it’ll bring people to us to come shopping,” said Bennett.<\/p>\n
Seasonal resident Randy McPherson is eager to support local growers.<\/p>\n
“We love it, because we just are really into the local growers, the local farmers,” said McPherson. “We know they’ve worked hard to provide for others, and it just feels like you’re kind of giving back to the community.”<\/p>\n
