The city of Sanibel released the following summary of the Sanibel City Council\u2019s regular meeting, which was held on Dec. 16 in MacKenzie Hall at City Hall on Sanibel:<\/p>\n
PRESENTATIONS<\/p>\n
\u2013 The council recognized City Clerk Scotty Lynn Kelly for earning the Florida Certified Professional Clerk (FCPC) certification.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Chief Resilience Officer Ashlee Painter and SanCap Resilience Steering Committee Chair Bob Moore provided a presentation on the Solar United Neighbors\u2019 (SUN) Switch Together Program. The initiative encourages the use of reliable, renewable energy sources. It approved an annual special assessment on 44 properties to fund the dredging project and to create a dedicated fund for future projects.<\/p>\n VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT<\/p>\n Natural Resources Director Holly Milbrandt and consultant Cummins Cederberg provided a presentation summarizing a study on how flooding and sea level rise could impact the city\u2019s critical facilities and infrastructure. The council voted to approve the draft for submittal to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). It evaluated the current causeway cross-section against lane-width standards set by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida Greenbook, and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). It also reaffirmed the motion to install wildlife crossing signs and investigate traffic calming options to protect wildlife.<\/p>\n
