He cited alleged involvement in narcotics, gang activity and immigration issues as possible bases for a state case, though no charges have been filed yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To be able to bring, potentially, a state case against Nicol\u00e1s Maduro\u2026&#8221; DeSantis told a cheering crowd, without offering a timeline for any formal filing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The comments come as Venezuela reels from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/u-s-officials-reveal-new-details-on-the-covert-operation-to-capture-maduro\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a U.S. military operation that captured Maduro<\/a> over the weekend. The Cuban government also publicly acknowledged officers killed in the operation \u2014 a rare admission about Cuba&#8217;s intelligence presence in Venezuela.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eduardo Gamarra, a politics and international relations professor at Florida International University, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/video\/cuba-identifies-32-officers-killed-in-weekend-attacks-in-venezuela\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Cuba&#8217;s announcement underscores<\/a> the broader international implications of the Maduro capture.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They never had admitted they had this huge intelligence apparatus there,&#8221; Gamarra said. &#8220;Everybody knew it, except the Cubans never would have admitted it.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump has framed the capture as part of a broader effort to address Venezuela&#8217;s future, saying the U.S. will &#8220;run and fix Venezuela.&#8221; Gamarra said one likely condition from Washington will be pushing Venezuela to cut ties with Cuba, potentially reshaping the region&#8217;s geopolitical landscape.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Experts caution that Venezuela&#8217;s economy \u2014 especially its oil exports \u2014 matters greatly to Cuba&#8217;s survival, and losing that support could worsen conditions on the island.<\/p>\n<p>In South Florida, some Cuban exiles celebrated Maduro&#8217;s capture and expressed hope that similar action might one day target Cuba&#8217;s president. But Gamarra said that scenario is unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think the president said it very clear, right? We are going to let Cuba fall on its own. We don&#8217;t have to push it over,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Venezuela&#8217;s government has condemned the U.S. operation, calling it a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/video\/after-u-s-raid-in-venezuela-cuba-calls-action-state-terrorism-while-florida-eyes-charges-aga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">&#8220;war crime&#8221;<\/a> and saying it has launched its own investigation into the raid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Gov.
