The Southwest Florida Archaeo-logical Society recently announced a book signing and presentation on \u201cKey West in the Civil War\u201d by acclaimed local author Robert Macomber. The presentation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m., at the Imaginarium Museum, located at 2000 Cranford Ave, Fort Myers. <\/p>\n

This is a free public program.<\/p>\n

After a meet and greet and book-signing session, Macomber will give a presentation on the crucial role of Key West in the U.S. Civil War. <\/p>\n

The lecture will describe places in Key West that you can visit today including the 1852 U.S. Naval depot, 1845-built Civil War Fort Taylor, two Martello Tower forts built during the war, the 1860 rescued-slave cemetery, the origins of famous Mallory Square, and an overview of seven Civil War shipwrecks on the Southwest Florida coast. <\/p>\n

Macomber is known for captivating audiences with his storytelling expertise, creating eager readers and listeners alike.<\/p>\n

As the author of the 17 book \u201cHonor Series\u201d and an internationally acclaimed lecturer, Macomber has been described as \u201cThe O\u2019Brian of the Caribbean\u201d by Randy W. White. Macomber\u2019s novels chronicle the naval escapades of his protagonist Peter Wake that begin in the early days of sailing naval vessels in the Civil War in Southwest Florida. <\/p>\n

The final book of the \u201cHonor Series,\u201d \u201cFull Naval Honors: The Final Novel of Peter Wake and His Descendents\u201d was published in April 2023.<\/p>\n

As an accomplished seaman, Macomber inserts his knowledge of sailing and the sea into his character and his knowledge of historical events into the events here in Southwest Florida. When not traveling for research treks, lecture tours, or book signings, <\/p>\n

Macomber lives on the southwest coast of Florida in Lee County where he grew up.<\/p>\n
