TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Florida State University student believes her attempted sexual assault was preventable after she says an off-campus student housing complex failed to follow through on security promises.<\/p>\n
The sexual assault reportedly happened on January 29, 2025, in the parking lot of Urban Enclaves, an off campus student housing complex, as she was walking home from Palace Saloon. <\/p>\n
Crime victim attorney Maegan Bridwell from the Haggard Law Firm is representing the sexual assault survivor. Bridwell says the property owner, the property manager and the security company did not adequately provide working security cameras, on-site security and gates to control access.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis assailant walked up behind a young, petite female… stuck a knife up to her back, put his hand over her mouth and said, \u2018Don\u2019t scream or I\u2019ll kill you.\u2019 And after that, he pinned her to the ground and attempted to rape her,\u201d Bridwell said in an interview. <\/p>\n

Bridwell said that parents expect robust security when sending their kids to off-campus housing, but in this case, the camera that should\u2019ve caught the incident wasn\u2019t working.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re not even making sure it works. And again, the problem with that is not only is it the promise that induces these people to live there, but it\u2019s a promise that changes the behavior of the students,\u201d Bridwell said.<\/p>\n
The police report is graphic and details how Chadric Boone Sr., 39<\/a>, allegedly assaulted the student just inside a security gate. He\u2019s entered a not guilty plea and his lawyer declined to comment.<\/p>\n Boone was charged with attempted sexual battery with a deadly weapon, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, battery and has not gone to trial yet.<\/p>\n The victim is remaining a \u201cJane Doe\u201d to protect her identity so she can finish school. <\/p>\n Lawyers for the property owner, property manager and security company either declined to comment or didn\u2019t respond to WCTV. In court, the defendants have denied the allegations and raised a defense that the assault was the result of the perpetrator\u2019s actions, not their own.<\/p>\n Tune in to Eyewitness News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the full story.
