{"id":10970,"date":"2025-10-19T12:46:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-19T12:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/10970\/"},"modified":"2025-10-19T12:46:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T12:46:06","slug":"hurricane-center-ups-chance-caribbean-bound-system-will-develop-orlando-sentinel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/10970\/","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane center ups chance Caribbean-bound system will develop \u2013 Orlando Sentinel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Hurricane Center on Sunday increased the chances a Caribbean-bound system will develop into the season\u2019s next tropical depression or storm.<\/p>\n<p>As of the NHC\u2019s 8 a.m. tropical outlook, the tropical wave, dubbed Invest 98L, was approaching the Caribbean\u2019s Windward Islands with a large area of showers and thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected today continuing through Monday morning across portions of the Windward and Leeward Islands as the system moves quickly westward at 20 to 25 mph into the eastern Caribbean<br \/>Sea,\u201d forecasters said. \u201cAdditional development is forecast to be limited over the next day or two, due to the fast forward motion of the wave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The system is forecast to slow over the central Caribbean Sea midweek, though.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">8am EDT 19 Oct \u2013 NHC is monitoring a tropical wave (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AL98?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#AL98<\/a>) moving over the Windward Islands today. Heavy rainfall &amp; gusty winds anticipated as it moves through, but it&#8217;s fast motion is forecast to limit development over the next day or two. <\/p>\n<p>The system has a medium chance (60%\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wciJN3Xe3j\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/wciJN3Xe3j<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 National Hurricane Center (@NHC_Atlantic) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NHC_Atlantic\/status\/1979882031921115324?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">October 19, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnvironmental conditions could become more conducive for development. A tropical depression could from over the central Caribbean Sea by the middle to latter portion of this week,\u201d forecasters said,<\/p>\n<p>The NHC gave it a near 10% chance to develop in the next two days and 60% chance to develop in the next seven.<\/p>\n<p>If it develops into a named storm, it could become Tropical Storm Melissa.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 12 named storms this year, four have grown into hurricanes, and three of those became major hurricanes.
