Many Canadians are considering selling Florida homes, while fewer are looking to buy in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Canadian\u00a0snowbirds have long owned property throughout the Sunshine State. But two prominent real estate analysis firms say more Canadians are looking to sell their properties in the U.S. due to growing tensions between the countries.<\/p>\n

Royal LePage<\/a> and Realtor.com<\/a> have released new analyses showing the trend. Royal LePage recently concluded a study<\/a> that showed 54% of Canadians who currently own residential property in America say they\u2019re planning to sell those homes within the next year. Out of those, 62% say President Donald Trump\u2019s administration is the main reason they are looking to sell.<\/p>\n

Phil Soper, President and CEO of Royal LePage, said perceived antagonism from the U.S. is contributing to Canadians souring on owning property in the U.S.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe polarizing political climate in the United States is prompting many Canadians to reconsider how and where they spend their time and money. Canadians have been the most important foreign investors in America\u2019s residential real estate market for years, and a significant wave of property sales would leave a noticeable mark on the regional economies that snowbirds support,\u201d Soper said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaces like Florida, Arizona and California stand to lose millions in economic activity each year \u2014 and thousands of neighbors \u2014 if Canadian owners pull their capital from U.S. housing markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

Realtor.com analysts say<\/a> trade tariffs imposed by Trump\u2019s administration have directly impacted Canadians who own U.S. property. Data from the real estate company indicates that Canadians looking for U.S. property declined 4.5% from the third quarter of 2024 when compared to the same time frame in 2025.<\/p>\n
