{"id":110647,"date":"2026-01-08T17:26:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T17:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/110647\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T17:26:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T17:26:07","slug":"fort-lauderdale-police-roll-out-operation-fast-and-furious-to-curb-aggressive-driving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/110647\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Lauderdale Police roll out \u2018Operation Fast and Furious\u2019 to curb aggressive driving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has launched Operation Fast and Furious, a citywide traffic safety initiative aimed at cracking down on aggressive driving and reducing serious crashes on local roads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Advertisement &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The program got the green light on Tuesday after the City Commission approved $51,000 in grant funding from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to support stepped-up enforcement and public education efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Police say aggressive driving \u2014 including speeding, unsafe lane changes, failure to yield, tailgating and ignoring railroad crossings \u2014 remains one of the leading causes of severe crashes and traffic fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOperation Fast and Furious is about saving lives,\u201d Mayor Dean Trantalis said. \u201cBy increasing enforcement in high-risk areas, we are sending a clear message that aggressive driving will not be tolerated on our roads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the initiative, officers will conduct high-visibility traffic enforcement in identified hot spots across the city, operating during both daytime and nighttime hours. Night enforcement will be a major focus, as data shows speeding violations tend to increase after dark.<\/p>\n<p>Grant funds will be used to purchase handheld speed radar devices, improving officers\u2019 ability to detect and document speeding violations. FLPD will also deploy a mobile speed radar trailer in areas with persistent speeding and aggressive driving complaints.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caribbeannationalweekly.com\/ads\/afrocarib-2026-728x90\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"317\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Afro-Carib-728x90-1-scaled.jpg\" class=\"no-lazy-load wp-post-image\" alt=\"Afro Carib 728x90\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beyond enforcement, the initiative includes a strong public education component.
