A North Fort Myers man has been arrested in connection with what police say was a retail theft scheme. <\/p>\n
Nicholas A. Tollner, 44, has been charged with grand theft between $750 and $5,000, a third-degree felony. <\/p>\n
According to Cape Coral Police Department officials, Tollner was arrested following an investigation into a series of theft incidents at the Home Depot on Skyline Boulevard between May 8 and May 29 of 2025. <\/p>\n
Police officials state officers responded to the Home Depot for a theft reported by the store\u2019s Asset Protection staff. Officials state Asset Protection observed a male subject select merchandise, pass all points of sale without payment, and exit the store on May 29, 2025. Police said Home Depot\u2019s Asset Protection personnel intervened and recovered approximately $698 worth of merchandise from the individual before he left in a gold Ford Expedition.<\/p>\n
\u201cFurther investigation revealed that the same individual was linked to three prior incidents in which he allegedly altered item prices at self-checkout registers by scanning lower-priced tags,\u201d a CCPD release stated. \u201cThese \u2018ticket-switching\u2019 incidents occurred between May 8 and May 15, 2025. The combined total of merchandise value connected to these thefts equals $1,012.48.<\/p>\n
\u201cDetectives used multiple investigative techniques, which ultimately led to the identification of Nicholas Tollner as the primary suspect.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Jan. 7, detectives located Tollner at his residence and took him to the Lee County Jail, according to law enforcement officials. <\/p>\n
