January 8, 2026 \u2013 Port Charlotte, FL<\/p>\n

A man was arrested after shooting and killing his landlord in a home on Van Buren Avenue in Port Charlotte. <\/p>\n

On January 7, 2026, at approximately 1:39 PM, the Charlotte County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to the 23000 block of Van Buren Avenue in Port Charlotte, Florida, in reference to a 911 call of a shooting.<\/p>\n

The Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. Detectives collected physical evidence and obtained statements from several subjects.\u00a0The investigation determined that Jordan Patrick Ruddy (1\/10\/1987) was in a physical altercation with his landlord while at the residence. During the altercation, Ruddy discharged the firearm several times, striking and killing the victim. Ruddy was located on scene and placed into custody by detectives for Failure to Register as a Felon, Possession of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon, and Second-Degree Murder.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an individual who clearly could not conduct himself properly, as evident by his criminal history. Now, that behavior has violently cost someone their life. My heart goes out to the victim\u2019s family and friends as they start a new year off with a terrible and senseless loss. I pray for their strength and God\u2019s grace through the mourning process.\u201d <\/p>\n

At the time of this release, Ruddy is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.<\/p>\n
