The Florida Department of Health in Lee County issued a water quality advisory for Lynn Hall Memorial Park in Fort Myers Beach.<\/p>\n
Tests conducted on Wednesday revealed that bacteria levels in the water exceeded state guidelines. The advisory will remain in place until levels return to a safe threshold.<\/p>\n
The DOH say the bacteria, Enterococci, is found in the intestinal track in animals and people. When this bacteria is found in water it can be from potential fecal contamination.<\/p>\n
The DOH says the contamination can happen through water run off, pets and wildlife, and from sewage.<\/p>\n
Beachgoers should avoid swimming or playing in the water. The DOH says the contamination can cause diseases, infections, and rashes if it comes in contact with cuts and sores.<\/p>\n
