PORT St. LUCIE, Fla. \u2013 A Port St. Lucie police sergeant who was shot in the face about a month ago recently walked out of a hospital.<\/p>\n
New video shared Friday by the Port St. Lucie Police Department shows 27-year veteran Sgt. Erik Levasseur leaving that hospital arm-in-arm with his wife while surrounded by applauding onlookers. <\/p>\n
Levasseur was in critical condition after being shot in the face Dec. 1, 2025, by a suspect with an assault rifle, according to News 6 partner Local 10 News<\/a>. <\/p>\n Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said the suspect was then killed in an exchange of gunfire with the officers that they had ambushed, all of this occurring during a what was described as neighbor dispute involving mental-health.<\/p>\n [WATCH: Body camera footage shows shooting that put Florida police officer in hospital]<\/p>\n Levasseur was placed in a medically-induced coma and no other officers were injured, Local 10 reported.<\/p>\n The police department has shared several updates since then, with one in mid-December stating Levasseur was awake again but no longer had vision and was mulling potential reconstruction surgery to his face.<\/p>\n The latest update on sergeant\u2019s recovery came on social media<\/a>, when the agency shared new remarks along with video<\/a> of Levasseur and his wife as they left the hospital.<\/p>\n \u201cHere\u2019s to Sgt.
