TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida State University students gathered at Tully Gym to compete in a goalball tournament Sunday. Goalball is a sport designed for athletes of all visual abilities.<\/p>\n
Organized by FSU Campus Recreation and the University of Choice Initiative, the tournament aims to foster inclusion and awareness during Disability Employment Awareness Month. <\/p>\n
Goalball is played in teams of three, with players wearing blindfolds and using a ball embedded with bells to score by sound and touch.<\/p>\n

FSU has hosted two goalball tournaments each year since 2017, one in the spring and one in the fall.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s event began with a demonstration by an Olympian and a longtime goalball player, Norris Coster, who shared his journey into the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t do anything else in sports, so goalball was my sport,\u201d Coster said. \u201cA lot of people really don\u2019t have an idea of what visually impaired or blind people can do as far as sports, so I think it opens up that door for people to have a better understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n
The University of Choice Initiative will continue its disability awareness programming with a guest speaker event featuring disability rights activist Tiffany Yu on Monday at 7 p.m. It will be at Moore Auditorium.<\/p>\n
