Kenyan athletes began the year with a bang, starring in the 2026 World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, in the United States of America.<\/p>\n

Kenya finished the championships on top once again after amassing nine medals, three gold, four silver and two bronze medals.<\/p>\n
World record holder Agnes Jebet Ngetich led the onslaught, storming to victory in the women’s senior race. Ngetich never appeared in doubt, recording the second-biggest winning margin ever seen in the history of the cross country championships.<\/p>\n
She crossed the line with a time of 31:28 ahead of Uganda\u2019s Joy Cheptoyek and Ethiopia\u2019s Senayet Getachew.<\/p>\n

I now have an individual title, and I am proud to become the 10th woman to win world cross country gold for Kenya. Beatrice (Chebet) told me to bring the (gold) medal back home. This title is special,” she said.<\/p>\n In the men’s race, Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo won his third title in a row, beating Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi and Kenya’s Daniel Ebenyo, who had to settle for second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n In the men’s U-20 race, Frankline Kibet finally struck gold in his global senior championships debut after a series of near misses on home soil. Kibet led a Kenyan 1-2-3-4 with Emmanuel Kiprono, Andrew Alamisi and Andrew Kiptoo coming in after him.<\/p>\n “I am very happy with my victory and the team gold. We trained together, so it is good to celebrate as a team. Individual winners walked away with 30,000 USD (KSh 3.8 million) while the second-placed finishers got half of that, which is KSh 1.9 million.<\/p>\n Bronze winners won 10,000 USD (KSh 1.2 million) each.<\/p>\n In the team results, the top team earned 20,000 USD KSh 2.5 million) while number two got 16,000 USD (KSh 2 million).
