Trump\u2019s Cuba oil message sparks celebration in Miami\u2019s Little Havana <\/p>\n
MIAMI \u2014 Cuban Americans celebrated in Miami\u2019s Little Havana neighborhood, waving Cuban flags and banging pots and pans outside the Versailles Restaurant after President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would cut off Cuba\u2019s supply of Venezuelan oil.<\/p>\n
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump said the United States is ending oil shipments to Cuba and cutting off financial support.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere will be no more oil or money going to Cuba — zero!\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n
Many residents expressed hope that the move could signal the end of Cuba\u2019s dictatorship, however, some said they were uncertain whether Trump would follow through.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what he\u2019s going to do. He\u2019s unpredictable,\u201d one resident said. <\/p>\n
U.S. Rep. Carlos Giminez also responded to Trump\u2019s statement, issuing a message in support of the president\u2019s stance.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo not test the resolve of the United States. With President Trump\u2019s leadership, we will help the Cuban people reclaim their freedom, rebuild their homeland, and take back their beautiful island from the communist narcoterrorist thugs who destroyed it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cuba\u2019s leader responded with a statement rejecting the U.S. position, saying Cuba is \u201ca free, independent and sovereign nation\u201d and that \u201cnobody dictates what we do.\u201d The statement concluded by saying the country is \u201cready to defend the homeland to the last drop of blood.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump\u2019s message to the Cuban government also included a warning to make a deal \u201cbefore it\u2019s too late.\u201d<\/p>\n
